Some people wonder how on earth I manage to fit in writing a blog whilst growing a toddler. The answer is simple. Routine.

Every day we have the same routine, which is kind of two routines depending on if it’s a work day or not. There is of course always exceptions to the rule like on holidays, special occasions or sick days. To help you all out here’s what our routines look like:

Monday, Wednesday, Friday (working days)
6.30am: wake up alarm goes off (unless Leo has already woken us), brush our teeth, change Leo’s nappy and get him dressed
7am: Milk and breakfast time with Daddy whilst Mummy gets dressed
7.30am: Mummy has breakfast, Leo watches TV, Daddy packs the car
7.50am: We get in the car, drop Daddy at work then Mummy drops Leo at Granny’s.
Daytime is free from stress
5pm: Daddy picks Leo up and walks back home to start dinner
5.15pm: Mummy gets home, gives cuddles and kisses then finishes cooking the dinner
5.30pm: We all sit down to dinner
6pm: Leo’s bath time
6.25pm: Watch In the Night Garden
6.50pm: Leo’s milk & story time
7pm: Leo’s bedtime, Mummy writes blog
8pm: Chill time (watch crap tv)
10pm: Mummy and Daddy approx. bedtime
Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday, Sunday (non-working days)
6.30am: approx. waking time
7am: Milk and breakfast time with Daddy whilst Mummy gets dressed
7.30am: Mummy has breakfast, Leo watches TV
8am: Mummy and Leo playtime
12pm: Mummy and Leo lunchtime
12.30pm: Mummy and Leo playtime/watch tv
2.30pm: Leo nap time, Mummy prepares dinner and does washing
4pm: Leo wakes up
4.30pm: Mummy cooks dinner
5pm: Daddy gets home and Sit down to eat dinner
6.00pm: Watch night time tv
6.50pm: Leo’s milk & story time
7pm: Leo’s bedtime, Mummy writes blog
8pm: Chill time (watch crap tv)
10pm: Mummy and Daddy approx. bedtime

Our bedtime routine with Leo has been the same since he was 5 months old so he is used to it now and settled really well when we moved him into his own room at 6 months. He sleeps through most nights from 7pm until 6.30am with only a few grumbles in the night. As his bedtime is nice and early, it leaves me with plenty of time to write my blogs and do the things I need to do before bed myself.

If you are a new parent or perhaps just struggling to find time to fit in some much needed you time, then try sticking to a more structured day. Everyone will reap the benefits and you may even find yourself less exhausted.
